Details of Ni-P / PTFE composite plating

Ni-P / PTFE composite plating is an electroless plating film based on metal (Ni-P), so it is characterized by a higher film hardness than coating films such as Teflon coating (fluorine coating). In addition, even if the film is scraped, the PTFE is evenly dispersed in the film, so it is possible to maintain the characteristics until new PTFE appears on the surface layer and the plating film disappears.

It is sometimes called Nimflon, Kaniflon, Nimtech, etc., but Nimflon is the drug name of Uyemura & Co., Ltd., Kaniflon is the drug name of Japan Kanigen Co., Ltd., and Nimtech is the product name of Shimizucho Metal Plating Co., Ltd. We are here. Both chemicals are the same Teflon electroless composite plating chemicals, but their performance is slightly different due to the slight difference in the composition of the chemicals.

A typical film thickness is 5-10 μm on each side.

Q. I was told that nickel strike is required when performing Teflon electroless composite plating on stainless steel. Why can't Teflon electroless composite plating be processed directly?

A. Stainless steel is a very corrosion-resistant material, but the reason for its excellent corrosion resistance is that the chromium component, which is a component of stainless steel, concentrates on the surface of the material to form a passivation film.

This passivation cannot be removed by the normal Teflon electroless composite plating process, which causes a decrease in adhesion.

Nickel strike is a hydrochloric acid-based plating bath, and chromium metal cannot be passivated in hydrochloric acid. Therefore, if treatment is performed with hydrochloric acid-based nickel strike, nickel plating can be performed while removing the passivation. , It is possible to ensure adhesion.

After processing nickel strike plating, Teflon electroless composite plating can be processed.

Q. The cold drawn wire is plated, but it is rough.

What are the possible causes?

A. It is necessary to confirm the treatment process from the pretreatment, but there are problems such as roughness due to burning by nickel strike, roughness due to foreign matter adhesion of the base electroless nickel, and roughness due to foreign matter during Teflon electroless composite plating. Other possible causes include pretreatment due to magnetization of the product itself due to electrolytic degreasing, etc., and roughness due to adsorption of iron powder in the plating solution.
