Industrial Nickel Plating and Electroformed Nickel JIS H 8626

JIS H8626 stipulates nickel plating of effective surfaces and effective surfaces of electroformed nickel performed on steel and non-ferrous metal substrates for industrial purposes.

Note) It is intended to be used for corrosion resistance, wear resistance, overlaying, etc. However, even in plating for the purpose of corrosion resistance, if the minimum plating thickness is within the range of the value specified in JIS H8617, the standard shall be applied.

Note) This standard only stipulates the quality of electroformed nickel itself, and describes the characteristics related to electroforming operation and purpose of use such as shape, dimensions, accuracy, material of mother mold, mold release treatment, releasability, and transferability. Does not specify.

JIS H 8626

1. 1. Definition

The definitions of the main terms used in this standard are based on JIS H0400 and the following.

1. As plated and as electroplated

No machining or no machining after plating and electroforming.

2. Machining

The process of cutting and grinding the plated surface and electroplated outer surface by a mechanical method.

2. Plating and electroplating symbols

The symbols for plating and electroplating are based on JIS H0404 and the following.

1. The plating symbol is indicated by adding an E for industrial use in front of the nickel element symbol Ni and connecting them with a hyphen.

2. The symbol for electroforming is Ef.

3. Plating is classified as shown in Table 1 depending on whether or not it is machined after or after electroforming.

When machining is performed after plating or electroforming, the symbol Ni representing nickel is connected with a comma, and the symbol M representing machining is indicated.

Furthermore, when indicating the type of machining method, the symbols specified in JIS B 0122 are used.

The same applies when machining the base material before plating and indicating the type of processing method.

1. Appearance of plating

The appearance of plating and electroplating shall be tested by appearance tests and the surface shall be free of defects such as humps, holes and cracks that are harmful to use. However, for those that are machined after plating and electroforming, it is permissible as long as these defects are removed by the machining.

2. Surface roughness

If the surface roughness of plating and electroplating is specified, the test shall be conducted by the outer surface roughness test and the value agreed between the delivery parties shall be satisfied.

3. Thickness and tolerance

The thickness of plating and electroforming shall be tested by a thickness test and shall satisfy the specified thickness and tolerance. For those that are machined by plating and electroforming, the thickness and tolerance shall be those after the final processing.

4. Corrosion resistance of plating film

If the corrosion resistance of the plating film is specified, the corrosion resistance test must be performed and the number of corrosion defects or the rating number of the base metal must satisfy the specified value.

5. Plating adhesion

If the adhesion of the plating is specified, the adhesion test shall be performed and the plating shall not show signs of poor adhesion such as peeling or swelling.

6. Plating hardness

If the hardness of plating and electroplating is specified, the hardness test shall be performed and the specified value shall be satisfied.

7. Non-destructive inspection characteristics

When testing the surface and inside of plating and electroplating by a non-destructive test method, a non-destructive test is used.

However, the application of this test and the judgment of the result shall be based on the agreement between the delivery parties.

8. Sulfur content of plating and electroplating

The content of sulfur coagulated in plating and electroforming is quantitatively analyzed by the sulfur quantitative analysis method.

However, the application of this analysis and its value shall be based on the agreement between the delivery parties.

9. Abrasion resistance of plating and electroplating

The wear resistance of plating and electroplating is tested by the wear resistance test.

However, the application of this test and its value are based on the agreement between the delivery parties.

10. Tensile strength and elongation

The tensile strength and elongation of plating and electroplating are subjected to a tensile test by a tensile test.

However, the application of this test and its value are based on the agreement between the delivery parties.

11. Repeatability

The repetitive bendability of plating and electroforming is tested by a repetitive bending test.

However, the application of this test and its value shall be based on the agreement between the delivery parties, and shall not be broken below the number of repeated bends according to the agreement.

12. Electrodeposition stress

The electrodeposition stress of plating and electroforming is tested by electrodeposition stress measurement.

However, the application of this test and its value are based on the agreement between the delivery parties.

4. Stress relief of material before plating

If heat treatment for stress relief is required for steel materials before plating, the conditions are based on the agreement between the delivery parties.

5. Heat treatment after plating

If heat treatment is required to remove hydrogen brittleness from plated steel products and improve plating adhesion to plated aluminum and aluminum alloy products, the conditions are subject to the agreement between the parties to the delivery.

Heat treatment of steel products should be done as soon as possible after plating, at least within 4 hours and before machining.

6. Test pieces

Specimens are usually made from products. However, if the plated product itself cannot be used as a test piece, the test is performed using an alternative test piece.

As much as possible, the substitute test piece must be made of the same material as the plated part and under the same plating conditions.

1. Appearance test

The appearance test is performed visually.

2. Surface roughness test

The surface roughness test is performed using either JIS B 0651 or JIS B 0652 measuring instrument.

The roughness is displayed according to the definition and display method specified in JIS B 0601.

3. Thickness test

The plating thickness test is specified in JIS H8501 for microscopic cross-section test method, electrolytic test method (for thickness of 50 μm or less), magnetic test method (for thickness of 250 μm or less), or ISO 4526. It depends on one of the test methods.

The method specified in JIS B 7507 or JIS B 7515 may be used. In this case, the dimensions of the product before plating are measured, and after the plating is completed, the same points are measured and the difference is taken as the plating thickness. However, the measurement should be performed at least 3 points.

The thickness test of electroforming is performed by any of the methods specified in JIS B7502, JIS B7507, or JIS Z2355.

In plating or electroforming of a complicated shape, the location and the measuring method for measuring the thickness may be a method recognized as effective by an agreement between the delivery parties.

4. Corrosion resistance test

The corrosion resistance test of plating is based on either the neutral salt spray test method or the Cass test method specified in JIS H8502.

Further, the ferroxyl test method specified in Annex 1 or the porosity test method specified in ISO4526 may be used.

5. Adhesion test

The adhesion test of plating is performed by either the grinding test method specified in JIS H8504, the chisel driving test method, or the thermal test method, or the test method specified in ISO4526.

In addition to these methods, methods that have been validated by agreement between the delivery parties may be used.

6. Hardness test

Hardness tests for thin plating and electroplating are performed according to JIS Z 2244 or JIS Z 2251 with a test load of 0.0097 07 N or more and a holding time of 15 seconds or more (thickness must be 1.5 times the indentation diagonal length. Adjust with load)

JIS Z 2245 may be used for thick plating and electroplating.

For hardness, measure at least 5 points and use the arithmetic mean value as the hardness value. The hardness test is performed on the plated surface and the electroplated outer surface, and the cross section is performed according to the agreement between the delivery parties.

7. Non-destructive testing

Non-destructive testing is performed by the method specified in JIS G0581, JIS Z2343, JIS Z2344 or JIS G0583.

Which method to use depends on the agreement between the delivery parties.

8. Sulfur quantitative analysis method

Quantitative analysis of sulfur contained in plating and electroplating is performed by the sulfur quantification method specified in JIS H 1151.

How to take, scrape and handle the sample is based on the agreement between the delivery parties.

9. Abrasion resistance test

The wear resistance test for plating and electroplating is either the flat plate rotary wear test method (Taber type wear test method), the two-wheel drive wear test method (Amsula type wear test method), or the reciprocating motion wear test method specified in JIS H8503. by.

10. Tensile test

Tensile tests for plating and electroplating are in accordance with JIS Z 2241. In this case, the test piece shall be JIS Z 2201 No. 5 test piece or No. 13 A / B test piece.

However, the direction, location and number of test pieces to be collected are based on the agreement between the delivery parties.

Other handling is in accordance with JIS H0321 6. (Mechanical test and other tests).

11. Repeated bending test

In the repeated bending test of plating and electroforming, the test piece is heated to 1000 ° C. for 10 minutes in an inert gas atmosphere, cooled, and then the bending test is performed. Set the inner radius to 2.5 times the thickness of the test piece, and bend it alternately at right angles in the opposite direction as shown in Fig. 1. The number of bends is counted once every 90 °. However, the shape of the test piece shall be 30 x 100 x 1 mm or a shape close to this.

12. Electrodeposition stress measurement

The method for measuring the electrodeposition stress generated during electrodeposition of plating and electroforming is in accordance with Annex 2.

8. Inspection

Inspection is based on JIS H 0321 and the following.

1. Inspection items, test methods, number of test pieces, inspection order and sampling inspection method shall be in accordance with the agreement between the delivery parties.

2. The shape and dimensions of the product must be inspected and tested by various tests to pass the quality regulations.

9. How to call plating and electroplating

In addition to JIS H0404, plating and electroplating are referred to by using the plating and electroplating symbol display method.
