Electric tin plating JIS H 8619

JIS H8619 stipulates electrotin plating on effective surfaces performed on metal substrates for the purpose of improving solder wettability and corrosion resistance of electrical parts.

Note) Includes electroplated gloss or matte or electroplated and then melt-glossed by melt treatment.

1. 1. Definition

The definitions of the main terms used in this standard are based on JIS H0400 and the following.

a) Effective surface The surface of a part that is or should be coated and whose coating is of primary performance and appearance.

b) Reflo A process of melting the plating to impart favorable properties such as gloss and improved solderability.

(Reference synonyms include melting treatment, fusing, and melting glossing)

c) Local thickness The average value of the specified number of measurements within the specified area

d) Average thickness The value obtained by the test method by analysis or the average measured value when the specified number of measurements is evenly distributed over the effective surface.

e) Base plating Plating that is applied to the substrate in advance for the purpose of preventing diffusion, solder wettability, corrosion resistance, and improving adhesion.

2. Grade, symbol and environment of use

1. Grades and symbols

a) Grades As shown in Table 1, the grades of plating are divided into 5 grades according to the minimum thickness of plating.

b) Symbol The plating symbol is based on JIS H 0404, in addition to the symbol indicating the thickness or grade of plating followed by the symbol r indicating reflow treatment.

2. Usage environment, usage environment conditions and symbols

The usage environment, usage environment conditions and symbols are based on JIS H 0404.

(Reference When using plated products for the purpose of decoration, anticorrosion, etc., classify them as shown in Reference Table 1 of the usage environment and indicate them with symbols)

3. 3. quality

1. Appearance of plating

The appearance of the plating shall be tested by appearance testing and shall be smooth on the effective surface of the plating and shall be free of humps, pits, stains, discoloration, exposure of the substrate or base plating and other harmful defects in use. ..

The selection of glossy or matte is based on the agreement between the delivery parties.

2. Minimum plating thickness

The minimum plating thickness shall be tested by a thickness test and shall comply with Table 1.

3. Corrosion resistance of plating film

The corrosion resistance of the plating film is tested by a corrosion resistance test, and the quality depends on the application and the agreement between the delivery parties.

4. Plating adhesion

The adhesion of the plating shall be tested by an adhesion test and there shall be no peeling or swelling of the plating.

5. Plating solder wettability

The solder wettability of the plating is tested by a solder wettability test, the soaked part is uniformly wet, and the surface of the solder should be flat and free of bumps.

(Remarks: After the solder wettability test, perform a bending test in the adhesion test, and the solder must not be scaly or peeled off.)

4. Base material

The condition of the substrate before plating has a significant effect on the quality of the plating. In particular, when the base material is supplied by the ordering party, the ordering party must show information about the base material in the processing specifications and the like.

5. Base plating

When base plating is performed for the purpose of preventing diffusion of plating, solder wettability, corrosion resistance, adhesion, etc., the type and thickness of the plating shall be determined by the agreement between the parties concerned with delivery.

6. Stress relief before plating

If stress relief before plating is specified for steel bases, etc., the conditions are based on the agreement between the delivery parties.

(Reference: For cold-worked steel parts, heat treatment at 190-220 ° C for 1 hour is desirable, and for carburized and hardened steel parts, treatment at 130-150 ° C for 5 hours or more is desirable.)

7. Heat treatment after plating

If glossing after plating, whisker prevention, removal of hydrogen brittleness to iron and steel substrates, etc. are specified, the heat treatment conditions shall be as agreed between the parties to the delivery.

8. test

1. Preparation of test piece

Specimens are usually made from products. However, if the plated product itself cannot be used as a test piece, the test is performed using an alternative test piece.

As much as possible, the substitute test piece must be made of the same material as the plated part and under the same plating conditions.

2. Appearance test

Appearance tests visually check for surface smoothness, charring, degree of adhesion, humps, pits, stains, discoloration and exposure of the substrate or base plating, as well as other harmful effects on use.

3. Thickness test

The thickness test is based on one of the microscope cross-sectional test method, electrolytic test method, fluorescent X-ray test method, β-ray test method, or plating adhesion test method by mass measurement specified in JIS H8501.

Note) In the case of acidic tin plating, it should be noted that correct results may not be obtained or measurement may not be possible depending on the type and amount of organic additives added.

(Remarks In the thickness test, the designated area is measured by the most appropriate test method among the specified methods for all effective surfaces that can be touched by a sphere with a diameter of 20 mm.)

(Reference: For products with an effective surface of less than 100 mm2, the minimum thickness shall be the minimum value of the average thickness. For products with an effective surface of 100 mm2 or more, the minimum thickness shall be the minimum value of the local thickness. .)

Four. Corrosion resistance test

The corrosion resistance test is based on the neutral salt spray test method specified in JIS H8502 or the method specified in JIS C0024.

The test method and test time are based on the agreement between the delivery parties.

5. Adhesion test

The adhesion test is based on any of the spatula ironing test method, tape test method, bending test method or thermal shock test method specified in JIS H8504.

6. Solder wettability test

The solder wettability test shall be conducted by the immersion test specified below, as well as by a method recognized as effective by JIS C0050 or an agreement between the delivery parties.

a) Apply a non-corrosive flux (for example, pine or ni to alcohol) to the test piece.

b) Hold a solder bath with a eutectic composition of H60A, H63A or equivalent specified in JIS Z3282 at 250 ± 5 ° C, and immerse the test piece for 3 seconds.

c) Take out the test piece, shake off excess solder lightly, and cool it in the air.

9. Inspection

a) Plating is 8. Test by test, 3. Those that meet the quality regulations are accepted.

b) Specimens are removed from lots of the same parts according to JIS Z 9031.

Remarks 1. The selection of inspection items and test methods is based on the agreement between the delivery parties.

Remarks 2. The number of test pieces, inspection order, inspection target location, and alternative use of test pieces shall be in accordance with the agreement between the delivery parties.

10. How to call plating

The name of plating is based on JIS H 0404.

12. Items to be stated in the purchase order or processing specifications
