In order to reduce metal wear during physical movement, (1) a method of co-depositing hard fine powder to form a hard plating film, and (2) self-lubricating fine particles are co-deposited to have high lubricity. There are two ways to make a plating film.

For the purpose of evaporating the fine powder of ① to improve wear resistance, composite plating is performed by evaporating fine particles such as silicon carbide: SiC, tungsten carbide: WC, alumina: Al2O3, and zirconia dioxide: ZrO2. And, the wear resistance is improved by about 70% compared to general nickel plating.

(2) Fluorine polymer, which is a fine particle with self-lubricating property: Plating with PTFE or graphite fluoride co-deposited results in a film with a low coefficient of friction and an extremely low coefficient of friction.

Most machine damage is related to the wear of sliding parts. If the molds, molds, cylinders, rolls, etc. of a continuous production line are damaged, not only the cost of replacing parts but also the damage caused by the line suspension will be enormous.

For this reason, mechanical parts are required to be durable against wear, and various surface treatments are used.

Industrial chrome plating is often used because it has excellent wear resistance for wear resistance purposes, but the higher the hardness of the chrome plating film, the smaller the amount of wear. Such a relationship is recognized in the wear condition (aggressive wear) with hard particles such as abrasive grains.

However, the actual wear state is not only that the amount of wear is small if it is hard, but when objects are rubbed together, welding between the rubbing metals (adhesive wear) and wear due to vibration of the contact noodles (fretting wear) ), Wear due to the formation of an oxide film on the surface and its destruction (corrosive wear), and wear due to the flow of high-pressure liquids and steam (erosion) also occur.

In addition, the presence or absence of lubricant during use, the applied pressure, the temperature and humidity of use, the presence of contaminants, and worn powder also affect the wear phenomenon.

There is also a way to reduce wear by reducing the frictional force.

A soft metal or a plating film with a low friction coefficient is effective for reducing the frictional force.

Tin plating, indium plating, silver plating and its alloy plating, which have excellent familiarity, are used for bearings and bearings with low load.

As a plating film with a low coefficient of friction, a film such as nickel plating, copper plating, electroless nickel plating, etc., which is a composite of lubricating molybdenum disulfide, graphite, graphite fluoride, fluoropolymer, etc., is used. ..

Teflon non-electrolytic composite plating

Hard chrome plating

The hard chrome-plated (industrial chrome-plated) film is a very hard film, so it has better wear resistance than other metals. It is often used for cylinders and rollers.


A soft plating film is effective for reducing frictional force.
